Jugar 1.e4 con blancas a menudo se asocia con tener que conocer páginas y páginas de teoría de aperturas, pero eso no tiene porqué ser así. Hay muchas variantes poco habituales pero jugables que dan a las blancas opciones de ataque a la vez que evitan los caminos trillados. Además de la ventaja práctica de dejar a las negras a merced de sus propios recursos, da a las blancas la oportunidad de jugar creativamente al ajedrez desde una fase temprana de la partida. Nigel Davies - The Scotch Game

The Scotch Game (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4) is a lively alternative to the Ruy Lopez which has found favour amongst many leading Grandmasters. The top experts in the Scotch include former World Champion Garry Kasparov as well as Alexander Morozevich, Sergei Rublevsky and others. The space White takes early in the game can easily translate into a powerful attack against Black’s king. In addition to this White can often usually some damage on Black’s pawn structure by capturing Black’s knight on c6. These dual aims have certainly been giving Black plenty to think about.

On this DVD Nigel Davies introduces the viewer to the Scotch and first shows an easy way to get on board this opening via the Scotch Four Knights (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.d4). He then goes on to show how this can be built into a World class Scotch repertoire in which Black has more options but also comes under more pressure. Whilst the presentation is focussed mainly on those who wish to play White, Davies also suggests lines for Black. This makes it essential viewing for players wishing to play either colour. Nigel Davies has been an International Grandmaster since 1993 and is a former British Open Quickplay and U21 Champion. He has had considerable experience in both the Scotch and in teaching club level players.

Viktor Korchnoi - My Life for Chess Vol.1

Nigel Davies - The Queen’s Gambit Declined Exchange

La Variante del Cambio del Gambito de Dama Rehusado es uno de los sistemas de apertura más importantes, que ha sido jugado por la mayoría de los grandes ajedrecistas de la historia y desde ambos lados del tablero. Entre los especialistas más destacados en este método de juego están Garry Kasparov, Mikhail Botvinnik y Samuel Reshevsky, mientras que conduciendo las negras aparecen ajedrecistas tan notables como Anatoly Karpov, Boris Spassky y Paul Keres. Es verdaderamente una apertura para campeones.

Caracterizada por una temprana resolución de la tensión en el centro, la estructura de peones asimétrica conduce a una variedad de planes e ideas por ambos bandos. Una de las estrategias más tradicionales para las blancas es el ataque de minorías, que intenta ampliar la influencia de las blancas a lo largo de la columna semiabierta c. King's Gambit by Boris Alterman

No adventure in chess is complete without deploying a King's Gambit sometime in your career; the history of which is almost as old as the modern game itself. It was first analyzed in Giulio Polerio's sixteenth-century manuscript, reached its zenith in the nineteenth-century when it was almost de riguer, had a brief renaissance during the 1960s thanks to Boris Spassky and David Bronstein, only now becoming unfashionable due to defensive techniques. Nigel Davies - "La Siciliana Cerrada"

Para jugadores que carecen tanto de la inclinación como del tiempo necesario para estudiar páginas y páginas de teoría de aperturas, la Siciliana Cerrada (1.e4 c5 2.Cc3 seguido por 3.g3) es una excelente elección. Los dos grandes exponentes de este método de juego fueron los campeones mundiales Vassily Smyslov y Boris Spassky. En la actualidad los principales exponentes son los grandes maestros ingleses Michael Adams y Nigel Short. Durante las fases iniciales, las blancas construyen con calma fortificaciones en el centro y ganan espacio en el flanco de rey. A pesar de la apariencia tranquila de este plan, en el medio juego puede conducir a una feroz carnicería contra el rey negro. En este DVD Nigel Davies presenta al espectador las distintas estrategias y variantes por medio de una serie de partidas instructivas. Su exposición se dirige principalmente a los jugadores que desean conducir las piezas blancas, pero también señala los mejores métodos de defensa para las negras. Nigel Davies - The Tarrasch Defence

The Tarrasch Defence (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5) is an excellent choice for Black, especially for players at club level. Offering Black the kind of free piece play that is missing from other defences, it was a great favourite of World Champions Boris Spassky and Garry Kasparov, not to mention its originator Dr. Siegbert Tarrasch. Amongst the many advantages of the Tarrasch is the fact that it can be used against the English and Reti Openings. On this DVD Davies introduces the viewer to the various plans and ideas, showing how Black should react to the various plans and variations White can adopt. Armed with this material the viewer will be able to play the Tarrasch with confidence. Video running time: 3 hours 50 min.

Nigel Davies has been a Grandmaster since 1993 and is a former British Open Quickplay and U21 Champion. He has more than 30 years experience of playing the English Opening, having used it extensively in his own games.
